Rhode Island School of Design
Assistant Professor of Painting

The Department of Painting at Rhode Island School of Design seeks applicants for a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to teach painting and drawing (starting July 2012). The department features an innovative curriculum beginning with a grounding in traditional methods and materials and stretching forward to contemporary art practice and theory. The department has 130 undergraduate majors, 20 graduate students, and offers a robust program of visiting artists, critics, seminars, and internships. Candidates must be practicing artists with a strong exhibition record, capable of inspired criticism and dedicated teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. An MFA or equivalent and solid college teaching experience will be required. Additional experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: installation, new technologies, video, or printmaking is also required. University of South Dakota - Assistant or Associate Professor of Art/Art History

Full-time, tenure track, nine month position. Duties of the position include teaching all aspects of Art History in a BFA and MFA program. Curriculum includes art history courses such as: Survey of World Art, Eighteenth Century through Contemporary Art and/or special interest areas. Duties of the position include teaching undergraduate and graduate levels of Painting in a BFA/MFA program. Curriculum includes a variety of painting mediums with a strong focus on oil and acrylic. Painting faculty are expected to teach fundamental to advanced techniques and a variety of philosophical concepts and directions, from figurative to abstraction and historic to contemporary, within their studio classes. Faculty members are expected to make contributions in teaching, service and scholarly research, participate in student reviews and critiques, maintain and operate a safe studio environment, and serve as a mentor to students in and out of the classroom. Assistant Professor, Sculpture & Drawing, School of Visual Arts, Boston University College of Fine Arts

Assistant Professor, Sculpture and Drawing, beginning Fall 2012. Pending budgetary approval. Possible tenure-track; salary commensurate with experience. Must have an MFA, a minimum of three years teaching experience (excluding any TA positions) at the undergraduate level, and a substantive national and/or international exhibition record. Need to demonstrate a developed ability and keen interest in teaching sculpture and drawing at the foundation levels. Further expectations are a wide-ranging knowledge of the traditions of sculpture, as well as a proven ability to teach practical fabrication techniques, woodworking, welding, mold making, studio practices (clay and plaster), and the foundry. Must also be able to explore widely varied contemporary practices in a growing sculpture department. Committee and recruitment work are expected. Fellowships, Residencies, & Grants


2012 Artists’ Fellowship - New York Foundation for the Arts / Painting
Deadline: December 16

Artists' Fellowships are $7,000 cash awards made to individual originating artists living and working in the state of New York for unrestricted use. Grants are awarded in 15 artistic disciplines, with applications accepted in five categories each year. Since the fellowship program's inception in 1984, NYFA has awarded over $24 million to over 3,800 artists. In 2011, NYFA awarded 104 Fellowships to 104 artists, with one working in a collaboration, and also recognized 16 Finalists, with one working in a collaboration. To be eligible for a NYFA Fellowship, applicants must be a resident of New York State for at least two years prior to the application deadline and cannot be enrolled in a degree program of any kind. Santa Fe Art Institute Residency Program

The Santa Fe Art Institute (SFAI) conducts a bi-annual competitive selection process for artist and writer residencies that focuses on the professional experience of the artist, the quality of their past work, and their potential to have a productive residency at SFAI. The selection committees are comprised of successful artists, gallery owners, art instructors, writers, and other arts professionals from our region. SFAI supports over 50 residents per year and offers a cohesive, arts-focused environment that creates the ideal working conditions for our resident artists. Residents are housed in handsomely appointed rooms with private baths and are provided with beautiful, well-lit studio spaces, allowing them to pursue creative projects without interruption. Henry Moore Research Institute Fellowships

The Henry Moore Institute is a world-recognised centre for the study of sculpture in the heart of Leeds. An award-winning exhibitions venue, research centre, library and sculpture archive, the Institute hosts a year-round programme of exhibitions, conferences and lectures, as well as developing research and publications, to expand the understanding and scholarship of historical and contemporary sculpture. Research is central to the activities of the Institute. Through it, we aim to encourage research into sculpture both within our walls and without, acting as a hub to develop communities of research. Each year we offer a number of fellowships, enabling researchers of different backgrounds and disciplines to develop their work at the Institute. Research Fellowships are intended for artists, scholars and curators, working on historic and contemporary sculpture using the Institute's library, archive of sculptors' papers and the collection of Leeds Art Gallery. Up to four fellows will be given the opportunity to spend a month in Leeds to develop their own research. With access to our resources and an on-going dialogue with the Institute staff, fellows are free to pursue their own interests in a supportive and stimulating environment. Kala Art Institute Artist-in-Residence Program, Berkeley, CA.

Artists working in various printmaking techniques, photo-processes, book arts and digital media including sound/video production can apply to become an Artist-in-Residence at Kala Art Institute. Residency applications are accepted four times per year. Artists who apply for residency should be familiar with at least one of the media offered at Kala. Considerations for acceptance are conceptual creativity and technical knowledge. Kala encourages use of both traditional and new technologies, and their admixture. Emmanuel College Artist in Residence (ECAR)

The Emmanuel College Art Department offers an eight-week artists residency to four artists each summer. The residency supports a diverse group of artists, providing time and space for established and emerging artists to develop their work.
The Art Department specifically aims to award a residency to one individual from each of the four categories: ceramics, photography, printmaking and social justice. Fostering creative and artistic excellence, the residency also plays an important role in advancing the visual arts on the Emmanuel campus, providing an important educational program on contemporary art accessible to students, staff, and faculty. Printmaking Center of New Jersey: 2012 Artist in Residence Program

The Printmaking Council of New Jersey (PCNJ) is a non-profit fine art center specializing in print and paper media. For the past 36 years, it has provided activities, exhibitions, events, and classes that support and nurture an appreciation for printmaking, photography, papermaking, and artist books. PCNJ offers an annual 6 week residency to professional artists who are interested in developing new and innovative work in printmaking and its related disciplines. The Creative Divergents Winter 2011 Showcase is open and accepting submissions. As a reminder, all subjects, styles, and media are welcome. Challenge, explore, push boundaries! One submission will be selected to receive a $1,000 (USD) award, determined by creative vision, innovation, potential to engage an audience, presentation (i.e. quality of the images submitted), and overall impression. The Sculpture Center

The Sculpture Center is seeking applicants for its 2013 WINDOW TO SCULPTURE EMERGING ARTIST SERIES with an open Call for Ohio Artists. Through the W2S Series, begun in 1991, The Sculpture Center fosters and promotes the careers of exceptional Ohio sculptors during the first ten years of their profession. Sculptors and installation artists are chosen annually for one-person exhibitions in either the Main or Euclid Avenue Gallery with a full color brochure. The 5 week long exhibitions are held January-May. ELIGIBILITY IN BRIEF - The sculptor or installation artist must have an Ohio connection by birth, residency, or schooling, but does not need to be currently residing in Ohio. At the start of the W2S Series (January 2013), the sculptor must have completed an artist degree (undergraduate or graduate), apprenticeship, or period of equivalent self-taught experience at least seven months to a year prior and be no more than ten years into his/her career. Torpedo Factory Art Center- 2012 Open Exhibition

This is an Open Call for proposals for an exhibition in the summer of 2012. This call is open to all artists from North America working in all visual media. Proposals for exhibitions by both individuals and groups will be considered. The individual or group associated with the chosen proposal will receive a solo exhibition at the Target Gallery from August 4 - September 2, 2012.
