PNC Bank Family Day!

Bring the family to Cranbrook Art Museum for a day filled with nautical activities. Tour the current exhibitions, see classic boats surrounding the Orpheus Fountain, and make your own screen-printed T-shirt right on the Peristyle. Kids can create and launch their own boat in the Triton Pools! All in addition to tours of our current exhibitions, Collections Wing and Saarinen House.

The day is built around a lecture by Geoffrey Reynolds, Director of the Joint Archives of Holland at Hope College, who will discuss "Plastic Fantastic" - Michigan's connection to the fiberglass boat-building industry.

All activities are free with paid Museum admission. Children under 12 are always free at Cranbrook Art Museum.

11am – 5pm: Museum is open to the public. Classic fiberglass and wooden boats will be on display around Orpheus Fountain. And Sugar Magnolia's food truck will have sweets for sale.

Noon – 4pm: Academy graduate Wes Taylor will be operating a six-arm T-shirt press while you watch. Extra cost for purchase of the shirt.

12:15, 1:15, and 2:15pm: Collections Wing tours of the vault with Art Museum curators.

1-3pm: Family Activity: Kids can make their own boats to launch in the Triton Pools!

1 and 3pm: Tours of Saarinen House.

2:30pm: Boat Regatta– Kids can launch their new boat in the Triton Pools.

3pm: Lecture in deSalle Auditorium: Plastic Fantastic: Holland, Michigan's Boat Building Industry and the Use of Reinforced Fiberglass Plastic presented by Geoffrey Reynolds, Director of the Joint Archives of Holland at Hope College.

Special welcome for all families by Christopher Scoates, new Director of Cranbrook Academy of Art, and Gregory Wittkopp, Director of Cranbrook Art Museum. Richard DeVore, President of PNC Bank, will also be on hand to welcome guests.


Drop-In Art Sundays

Cranbrook Art Museum offers art-making in the galleries once a month. Activities are perfect for pre-K through pre-teen Museum visitors accompanied by an adult. Drop-in and grab a Kids Gallery Guide to explore the exhibition, then create your own artwork inspired by this month’s featured artists.
