Post Digital Painting
"Post-Digital Painting" $20.00

The world is undergoing a seismic technological transformation that is radically altering our perception. The low tech medium of painting has had to retool itself to keep pace with this evolving condition.

In "Post-Digital Painting" the artists' methodologies of inscribing the digital perspective onto the painted surface displays the multivalent and fluctuating nature of information space and it's virtual terrain.

The 64 pages of this catalogue are profusely illustrated in color, with essays by curator Joe Houston that reveal the artists' new perceptual paradigm of the digital. Scott Anderson, Phillip Argent, Alex Brown, Benjamin Edwards, Chris Finley, Beverly Fishman, Carl Fudge, Dan Hays, Yeardley Leonard, Randy Wray, Amy Yoes and Peter Zimmerman are the twelve artists whose work explores this new medium. This exhibit was on view at Cranbrook Art Museum December 14, 2002 to March 23, 2003.

Saarinen House and Gardens
"Saarinen House and Garden A Total Work of Art" $ 55.00

To Eliel Saarinen, life and art were inextricably bound within an architectural framework that encompassed all aspects of design. Saarinen’s philosophy is evident in Saarinen House and it’s gardens, whose design, furnishings and decoration were a collaborative effort of the entire Saarinen family — Eliel, architecture and furniture; his wife Loja, window coverings and rugs; son Eero, the master bedroom suite; and daughter Pipsan, door designs and vanity accessories. It has been described as "one on the most significant American houses built in the 1920’s." This is confirmed by the lush color photography that reveals the beauty of this home’s interior and gardens. Included is a brief history of the Saarinens’ journey to Cranbrook and pre-restoration photos of the house. Copies autographed by Gregory Wittkopp, Editor, Director of the Saarinen House restoration project and Director of Cranbrook Art Museum, are available for an additional $ 5.00.
Architecture Studio

"Architecture Studio" $ 45.00

Since it’s beginning under Eliel Saarinen in 1932, the Cranbrook Academy of Art’s Department of Architecture has endeavored to extend the understanding of architecture in broader realms, emphasizing projects that draw on art and philosophy, urban issues and literary theory in addition to architecture. Dan Hoffman, Artist in Residence and Head of the Department of Architecture from 1986 to 1996, furthered this unique format through his teaching and his work. Many of his projects are permanent fixtures of the Cranbrook Campus. More than 30 projects represented here reflect those taught in a traditional manner and others that feature a more radical experimentation.
