CRANBROOK ART MUSEUM IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Cranbrook Art Museum is building for the future! In December 2008 we started a construction project that will result in the complete renovation of our landmark 1942 Eliel Saarinen-designed museum, including the installation of climate control and the addition of a new state-of-the-art Collections Wing. During construction, our galleries are closed through Spring 2011.
SAARINEN HOUSE OPEN FOR TOURS MAY THROUGH OCTOBER
Although our galleries are closed, Saarinen House—Eliel Saarinen’s 1930 Art Deco masterwork—remains open. Docent-guided walk-in tours of Saarinen House depart from Cranbrook Institute of Science, where tickets also may be purchased in advance and on tour days.
Walk-in tours are offered May 1 through October 31 on Thursdays and Fridays at 1:00 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays at both 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Evening twilight tours also are offered this summer on three Fridays: June 26, July 24 and August 28. There will be no tour on July 4th or from September 8 through September 13. Tours last 90 minutes and cost $9 (Adults), $8 (Seniors 65+) and $6 (full-time Students with ID), while children 12 and under and ArtMembers continue to be free. The tour includes stairs and two fifteen-minute walks on our campus. Please park in the Institute of Science Parking Deck. To purchase tour tickets in advance, call the Institute of Science at 248-645-3210. For general information on Saarinen House call the Institute's Front Desk at 248-645-3209 or send us an email at ArtMuseum@cranbrook.edu. ARTOLOGY EXHIBITIONS AT CRANBROOK INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE
While Cranbrook Art Museum is under construction, we will be presenting a series of pioneering exhibitions in collaboration with Cranbrook Institute of Science. Presented in the Institute’s 5,000 square-foot exhibition hall, “Artology” will include two exhibitions—including “Animal Logic: Photography and Installations by Richard Barnes”—as well as a series of interventions throughout the Institute. “Artology” and “Animal Logic” open to the public on October 4, 2009. For more information on Cranbrook Institute of Science, visit http://science.cranbrook.edu/.
"Artology" is generously sponsored by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and the Erb Family Foundation.
2010 GRADUATE DEGREE EXHIBITION AT MOCAD
In the spring of 2010, the not-to-be-missed annual “Graduate Degree Exhibition of Cranbrook Academy of Art” will be presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.
