| This
exhibition presents videos, photographs and music in an examination of
the lyrical vision of the American cultural icon Bruce Springsteen. The
multimedia exhibition, organized by the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of
the University of Minnesota and traveling to venues throughout the United
States, focuses on the themes of cars and the highway that pervade the
rock musicians finely wrought anthems. This exhibition reveals how
rock and roll reflects the greater cultural longing for freedom as symbolized
by the road. Springsteen: Troubador of the Highway, is the first traveling exhibition focusing on Bruce Springsteen. The exhibition is curated by Colleen Sheehy, Weisman Director of Education and adjunct faculty in American Studies at the University of Minnesota. Included are 6 videos, approximately 50 photographs by photographers Pamela Springsteen, Annie Leibovitz, David Kennedy, Matt DiLea and Frank Stefanko. Accompanying the exhibition is a free educational gallery guide with essays by noted American Art Historian Karal Ann Marling and Robert Santelli, Director of the Experience Music Project in Seattle. |
