Staying Power presents the achievements of a few of the more than 300 Cranbrook Academy of Art alumni who have chosen to build their careers in Michigan. The exhibition includes the work of twelve graduates from the past six decades and from each of the Academy’s ten departments representing the fields of art, architecture and design.

The artists’ contributions to Michigan begin with the quality of their artistic investigations in their own studios – a lifelong process. From the studio these artists extend their creativity to the outside world where they are educators, entrepreneurs, and community and business leaders, in short, civic-minded citizens working to better this state through their energies and talents. As evidenced by their reflections in the gallery guide, they have remained in Michigan for a variety of reasons, including the offer of work, the building of families and the support of like-minded individuals.

Cranbrook Academy of Art’s Network Gallery is an exhibition venue for Cranbrook alumni, current students and contemporary practitioners from around the world related to Cranbrook Academy of Art. Staying Power was organized by Network Gallery and curated by Associate Curator Fabio J. Fernández.

Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum and the Network Gallery are supported, in part, by the members and fund-raising activities of ArtMembers@Cranbrook and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
